SPW Book Club is Back Next Week!

Last week our book club completed “Love’s Not Colorblind” by Kevin A. Patterson. We met every other Tuesday with fifteen to over twenty participants. The book walks through the experience of not only black folks in sex positive spaces, but also queer, transgender, women, people of color, neurodiverse, and those with limited mobility. Kevin highlights ways that many of us can inadvertently hurt others through othering, assuming, fetishization, tokenization and more.

This book is a compassionate approach to understanding the struggles of others, especially for those of us that experience it less. We have great discussions around these topics, including additional resources and “aha” moments realizing we are indeed bias and we can choose to do better.

Our next book is “Pleasure Activism” by adrienne maree brown, a much longer read! This is a collection of ideas about who has access to pleasure? How do we make social justice the most pleasurable experience? Please join us anytime, whether you’ve read the section or not for a constructive discussion about how to bring more pleasure into the world and our daily lives.
